This narrative connects the importance of the role of African American labor to Western expansion and the financing of the industrial revolution. Victory of John Henry, (2020) references the legendary race of the African American folk hero, tasked with hammering a steel drill into rock to make holes for explosives to blast the rock in constructing a railroad tunnel, against a steam drill machine. The impacting assemblage, Victory of John Henry, (2020), has been acquired by the PAMM through the generous donation of Max König.
